VIDEO: Rochester Hills to Build Inclusive Playground with Crowdfunding Campaign

For the first time, Rochester Hills has partnered with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) to launch a $50,000 crowdfunding campaign. The money will be used to complete the city’s newest playground at Innovation Hills Park. If the campaign reaches its crowdfunding goal of $50,000 by May 31, the project will win a matching grant, making the grand total raised $100,000.

The new three acre playground is intentionally designed to inspire a love of nature and be accessible for everyone in a completely extraordinary way. Children will be able to go inside a large Bebb Oak Treehouse or run their fingers through a flowing splash river that mimics the path of the Clinton River. What guests will see, hear, and touch has all been designed to provide a positive experience for children of all ages and abilities.

The inclusion of children and adults with disabilities within the community has been a goal of the playground from its conception. “Creating opportunities for engagement provides significant benefits, not just for the individual who has a disability, but for the entire community,” said Jenny Brown, CEO of Dutton Farm. “We applaud Rochester Hills for creating a play feature system that can be a fun, safe, and secure experience for all of our families.”

With families seeking fun outdoor spaces to take their children to, this playground could not come at a better time. After completion of the campaign, the playground is expected to be completed and ready for kids to explore this summer.

“Our community’s passion to be innovative by nature is one of the reasons Rochester Hills is a great place to live and it is imperative that we pass that passion along to our children,” states Mayor Bryan K. Barnett. “Characterized as “A Park for a New Generation,” we are excited to share this opportunity for everyone to support this truly one of a kind playground.”

  1. The park will need more vehicle parking once the playground is open. Already on warm weekends we have not been able to find parking, and instead went to Rochester City Park. Innovation Park is a comfortable place to walk.
