The Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm will serve as the home field for another season of vintage baseball featuring the Rochester Grangers Vintage Base Ball Club. Matches will be held at the Museum on May 14 and 15, May 28 at Halbach Field in Rochester, June 4, July 10, and August 28. Matches begin at 1:00 p.m. and guests are encouraged to bring their own chair. Admission is free to the Matches and the Van Hoosen Dairy Barn.
Vintage base ball captures the start of base ball fever in the United States during the Civil War. Matches are played according to the rules of the early 1860s, which means no gloves and exceptional gentlemanly behavior. Matches are nine innings, pitchers throw underhanded, and various terminology harkens back to the early days of this national past time. The Rochester Hills Museum is located at 1005 Van Hoosen Road, one mile east of Rochester Road off Tienken road and one mile north of downtown Rochester.
