Volunteer at the Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library Store

The Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library Store is Seeking Volunteers

Volunteers are “100 percent important because the store is totally run by volunteers,” said store manager Darlene Tomczyk. “Without them, there are days the store has to close.”

To fully staff the store —located on the Library’s first floor at 500 Olde Towne Rd. in downtown Rochester —Tomczyk is looking for folks to operate it.

The store requires three persons per shift and 16 shifts a week. That means she needs a roster of at least 48 workers. The schedules are flexible, which makes it convenient for people who are looking to stay busy, help one of the area’s institutional gems but don’t want a major time commitment.

What are other advantages? “Meeting and making friends and being out in the public,” Tomczyk said. “And don’t forget raising money for the library. They get a discount for store goods.”

Volunteers come and go, and that means right now there’s a need to replenish the corps. Application forms are available at the store or at the Library info desk when the store isn’t open. Applicants can also call 248-650-7179, and leave a message expressing their interest. They’ll be contacted promptly.
