The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) began construction on Walton Blvd. this week. It will involve replacing three culverts and resurfacing the road between Squirrel and Adams roads in Rochester Hills and Auburn Hills.
The contractor, Z Contractors of Shelby Township, will begin work in the Walton Blvd. median which will require inside (left) lane closures in both directions.
In late May, the contractor is expected to shift two-way traffic to the north half of the boulevard so removal of culverts can begin on the south half. Residential and business access will be maintained at all times.
The approximately $6.9 million project is funded mostly by RCOC with additional funding from the City of Auburn Hills.
The project includes:
- Removal of 3 metal culverts and replacing them with concrete “box” culverts
- Concrete curb and gutter repairs
- Resurfacing Walton Blvd. from Squirrel to Adams, including the Walton Blvd. and Squirrel Road intersection
Construction is expected to conclude in late fall, though the resurfacing could take place in spring of 2019. Project information and updates.
