The Rochester Community School District’s PTA is sponsoring a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Career Exploration Fair at Rochester High School on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for all Middle School and High School students in our district.
According to the press release the goal of the event is to provide students with opportunities to explore, discover, and connect to their future careers. We will expose students to some of the many STEAM careers that are available, provide them with information on the type of education necessary for each field, and encourage students to take STEAM courses that will help them become ready for those professions by promoting creative thinking and problem solving.
In order to for the event to be successful, we need individuals who are willing to share information about their STEAM career with students. We are asking individual presenters to bring an activity, demonstration or display related to their career field to engage students. We are also asking that the individual be prepared to answer questions regarding:
- Educational requirements for the career.
- The beginning salary and the salary range over the life of the career.
- What a normal day looks like. Describe jobs/activities, normal hours, work environment.
- How/why did the presenter choose this career? At what age did he/she make that decision?
- How the job/career field has changed since he/she started.
- How technology has affected the career.
- Additional training needed to be effective on the job.
If you are available to share your career, and be part of this inspiring event, please sign-up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0B44A4AC2FA31-steam1/ or contact Michelle Bueltel at bueltel.michelle@gmail.com for more information.
