Warm-Up with a Good Book

white snow bright snowBrrr! I am not one of those people who love winter. I despise bundling my kids up and the sickness that always comes with colder weather and more time indoors. I love sunshine, playing in the park and warm weather. However, snow is always beautiful and I am often mesmerized by a newly fallen snow.

My son and I have been exploring the science behind snow and it is very interesting. Here’s a book list with some picture books that are fun and then some more informative non-fiction. Our Rochester Hills Public Library has a wide selection of non-fiction that is wonderful for children to explore, so don’t neglect that area of the library.

1. White Snow, Bright Snow by Alvin R. Tresselt

2. Owl Moon by Jane Yolen

3. Snowballs by Lois Ehlert

katy4. Katy and The Big Snow by Virginia Lee Burton. This is perfect for fans of Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel.

5. Snow by Manya Stojic

6. The Secret Life of a Snowflake by Kenneth George Libbrecht

7. The Snowflake: a Water Cycle Story by Neil Waldman
