State Rep. Michael Webber introduced a House Resolution that recognizes April 29 as International Guide Dog Day in the state of Michigan.
“Guide dogs are an extremely important resource for our neighbors who rely on them to go about their daily lives,” said Rep. Webber, R-Rochester Hills. “Recognizing the crucial service that these dogs provide is one way we can express our gratitude.”

Webber, and Leader Dog Breeding Host Eileen Delaney. Rep. Webber introduced a resolution to name April 29 International Guide Dog Day and welcomed them as his special guests.
The press release also stated that the resolution—HR 65—not only names April 29 as International Guide Dog Day for Michigan, but also encourages citizens to remember their importance. The resolution coincides with the announcement of a $14.5 million renovation to upgrade a kennel to a state-of-the-art Canine Development Center at the Leader Dogs for the Blind headquarters in Rochester Hills.
Webber welcomed three guests to the Capitol on the morning of the announcement—Leader Dog Breeding Host Eileen Delaney, Leader Dog Client Joan Sheehan, and her beloved black lab Kira.
“Leaders in our community like Eileen, Joan, and Kira show just how critical it is that we support developments to those who need our help most,” Webber said. “The Canine Development Center will be a phenomenal addition for our community, and I know that Kira can’t wait to help train her new friends.”
Construction of the Canine Development Center in Rochester Hills is expected to be completed in 2016.
