On September 3, 1993 a special little boy named Kevin Ray Cain came into this world on a mission. He was soon diagnosed with microcephalus and later diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Kevin would never be able to do the things other children do. As parents, Brian and Lisa struggled to meet the needs of this little boy along with those of their other children. Fortunately for them their church family assisted them where other organizations failed to assist.
In 2001, Kevin passed away and this is when the Cains realized that not everyone has the benefit of a church family to lean on in times of need. Out of this came God’s Helping Hands, a community outreach program that welcomes all who are in need. They are firmly connected to the Church of Christ in this area. Over the years, other communities of faith provide support along with local civic and business groups.
Since its beginning in 1998, God’s Helping Hands has been able to help meet the needs of families in Oakland, Macomb, and Lapeer counties along with other counties in Southeast Michigan with clothing and food. They’ve helped over 16,000 southeastern Michigan families. An average of 200-400 families receive assistance each month.
In a short seven and a half years, this little boy taught his family, church, and community what life and love was all about.
This fundraiser will make it possible for the Cains and God’s Helping Hands to help even more families in need.
