The Women’s Fund Presents Grant to Gary Burnstein Health Clinic
The Women’s Fund recently presented Gary Burnstein Health Clinic with a $1250 grant for their Women’s Health Clinic Program.
Gary Burnstein Health Clinic covers the cost of healthcare screenings, including cervical cancer screening, to uninsured women. Lori Roscoe, Women’s Fund Board Member, presented the grant check to Executive Director Justin Brox.
The Women’s Fund grant will help to cover comprehensive medical and dental care, as well as pharmaceutical support to uninsured members in our communities.
Over the past 16 years, the Women’s Fund has donated more than $300,000 to organizations helping women. The fund is a permanently endowed fund owned and administered by the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester. Through grant-making, the Fund provides ongoing and future support for programs that aid women while preserving and managing its donations in perpetuity by spending only the fund’s income and annual earnings.
The Women’s Fund
The Women’s Fund was established in 2000 with the vision of helping women within our community. Starting with 100 women, our goal was to make a difference in the lives of women and their families. The Gary Burnstein Community Health Clinic
In 1997, after working 20 years as a cardiologist, Dr. Gary Burnstein began providing care for patients at a homeless shelter in Pontiac, Michigan. Dr. Burnstein passed away in 2003, but friends, family, and community members honored his dream of providing care to the uninsured by establishing the Dr. Gary Burnstein Community Health Clinic (GBCHC). Dr. Burnstein’s dream of providing free medical care for those in need began in a closet at the shelter, and grew into a small rented facility in Pontiac.
