Zenith Brass Presents a Free Concert at Oakland University

The Zenith Brass, made up of some of the best high school brass and percussion players in the northern suburbs, will perform at Oakland University’s Varner Recital Hall at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 20. The concert is free and no tickets are required.

Members come from 17 schools across Oakland and Macomb counties and are selected by audition.

This 23rd annual Spring Concert, entitled “Classics By Brass”, features timeless classics from the wind band, orchestra, solo piano, film score and popular genres.  Director Mark Petty says “We try to select a variety of highest quality music and to perform each piece to a high standard in its authentic style. Members also gain an understanding of the composer’s background and how the music came about.”

The concert includes music by Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Gustav Holst, John Philip Sousa, Max Steiner and Simon and Garfunkel.

Zenith Brass concerts include an interesting commentary on each selection provided by Petty’s wife, Carol. Music will appeal to a wide audience of all ages.

Zenith Brass is a 501(c)(3) charitable organizations and all donations are tax-deductible.
